The Stills

Intonation Festival Day One
Chicago
I really hate to talk about physical attractiveness in conjunction with music because it’s the music that matters more. I will say, however, that this band was introduced with comments about their physical attractiveness and I thought, “Well of course they’re attractive! They’re Canadian!” I mean, don’t you know that even the Canadians raised in the back aisles of Canadian Tire with nothing but an IV drip concoction full of pureed Tim Hortons donuts, Coffee Crisp, and fries with vinegar are still incredibly nice to look at! Well, as long as they aren’t mean and awful politicians anyway (we all know that even attractive conservatives are really Darth Vader in disguise).
So The Stills from Montreal were very photogenic needless to say and they were also animated musicians, hamming it up with soaring guiatars and choruses that wafted across the audience in a sort of anthemic glee. I was really impressed with the way the vocals, guitars, keyboard, drum and bass filled the air having not been familiar with their songs before now.
