Intonation Music Festival Day Two
Chicago

Where can I possibly start with Jon Brion? I feel like I have such a history with his music. I started getting into Jon Brion around the time Magnolia was released as Jon Brion brought together a fantastic soundtrack. Since then, he has worked on the soundtrack for Punch Drunk Love as well as the soundtrack for Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind and I Heart Huckabees This is in addition to his stellar solo album called Meaningless which you can purchase on his website. ( I would highly recommend this album and you can hear songs from it on his myspace page ) He is amazing, phenomenal, dynamic and has his own way of looping piano, gutiar, and drums so that they all interact together in an amazing symphony. He played some phenomenal covers of Bob Dylan’s “Don’t Think Twice, It’s Alright,” Billie Holiday’s, “Foolin’ Myself,” and The Beatles,”Baby You’re a Rich Man.” but was a little light on his own solo material. He did play “I Believe She’s Lying” as a last song in the set and finished with an encore performance with the Kinks song “Waterloo Sunset” which he called “The greatest song of all time.”

Jon also had some very special guests: Benmont Tench who plays with Tom Petty, and Glenn Kotche of Wilco fame playing drums for him. I took about four hundred pictures of this. I’m still not sure which ones I truly like best. Jon Brion is so special to me.
