Miss Leslie Feist

(Metro 9/28/5)

This was my second time seeing Feist, the first being at Schubas headlining, which I blogged about here. Although she was technically the opener this time, she is also a part of the headliner Broken Social Scene so I think it was truly her night to shine in many ways. And, as I had sort of suspected, you could tell she was thrilled by the fact that there was a full crowd that came early to see her play.

You could definitely tell her heart was into it and her voice again carried well with the perfect amount of soulfullness. At one point, she even covered a Nina Simone song amongst playing song great ones off of her album Let it Die, including “Gatekepper,” “Let it Die,” “Mushaboom,” (my favorite) and “Secret Heart,” which she dedicated to Ron Sexsmith who she explained had been a dedicated fan following her at her shows. And I should also say that for “Let it Die,” she explained how broken hearts were like gardens that needed to be cultivated. She also debuted a new song entitled, “I’m Sorry” which was another soft soulful tune that would fit right in as another track off Let it Die.

Also, I have to say that even though I enjoy listening to her album, Let it Die, those songs really come to life live. Maybe it is the affecting nature of her voice or the way she gets into her guitar playing. It just has more of an impact up close in real life.

Click for more pictures-also I have pictures of her with Broken Social Scene which I will upload sometime soon I promise…it takes a while for me to edit and upload because I am super neurotic about the fact that half the time I can’t crop it right without someone’s head being in the way…ah well. I’m 5ft 6 people and I do not wear heels.

Let it be known I very rarely use flash as I don’t like to disturb the band. So, sometimes I am lucky and get a picture while someone else is using a flash or sometimes I use one between songs but still…rarely hence the blur. I am getting better and better at my “let’s pretend we’re a statue” game, though.

Okay so this last one is exceptionally blurry. But I like it so there. :)

    So she covered Ron Sexsmith’s “Secret Heart” or does she have a song by that name that she wrote about Ron? Just curious. It’s too bad that they (BSS) didn’t get to play NYC on this go-round, but I hope they will soon. Maybe they’re still mad about that incident back in July when one of them got hauled off to jail for marijuana possession (and I wouldn’t blame them).

    Also, I must say that Ms. Feist is really quite attractive

    You know…she has a way about her definitely. She’s more attractive when she’s singing imo because she gets really into it and she has such a great voice.

    Secret heart is a song on her album that is also a cover of the Ron Sexsmith song but she dedicated it to him after she said he was in the audience. Does this make sense? I should have explained it better.

    Totally off topic but I was thinking about you today as I was eating fortune cookies for the sayings(as I remember you saying you collect them too)...now does eating a few fortune cookies in one day guarantee an eventful life or do you think all that stuff about me coming into a huge sum of money would have happened anyways? ;
