Bob Pollard

Intonation Music Festival Day Two
Chicago

Where to start with Bob Pollard of Guided by Voices fame? Well let’s just say that if you aren’t familiar with his music, you’re probably missing out on 40% of all music output ever. Okay, perhaps that’s a bit of overdramatic emphasis. Suffice it to say that Pollard is a legend in his own right between his solo output and his GBV material.

I’ve seen Pollard in GBV live about five times now in the past few years. The difference here (besides changing band members) was that he drank and kicked less. Of course, he was given a shorter amount of time to play his set than usual (I’ve seen GBV shows last almost three hours). Pollard also drank less, which I was a bit happy to see. He still swung his mike and danced a bit. He played a mix of recorded solo (and upcoming solo material) and GBV material. Some of the songs he played include: “I Surround You Naked,” “I’m a Widow,” “Game of Pricks” and “Love Surely is Stronger than Witchcraft.”
