PSAPP

Opening for Juana Molina, PSAPP were pleasantly surprising to me. I hadn’t heard much about them and I still don’t know exactly what their name stands for (yes, I read the “about” section of their web page) but do know now that it is pronounced without the first P sound. More like tree “sap.” PSAPP and I have alot in common: They like cats (I like cats too!) They are from London (I like London!) They make things with pipe cleaners when they are bored on the road (I can so see myself doing that!) They like hearing little toys make noise (cool! I like little toys that make noise too!) I think what I’m saying is that PSAPP is the band for me.

A little bit of electronica based but more just fun based. (Does that sound right?) PSAPP uses all of the mainstream instruments-keyboards, guitar, bass, drums but then also has two violins being played during many songs and a ton of toys to make the sound truly unique. The vocals are sweet and soft and they throw free pipe cleaner cats into the audience (I didn’t get one. Darn!).

Check out their songs on their Myspace page and look at all of the other cut cat friends. Awww!

Psapp is awesome. I love how they use ambient sounds in their recordings like footfalls and chair squeaks. They’re brilliant.

I love all of the toys and their quirky feline sense.
