Telefon Tel Aviv

Wicker Park Street Festival

I don’t have too much to say about Telefon Tel Aviv’s live set because it ended up just being a dj spin, which was a bit of a let down. I had seen Telefon Tel Aviv play their own material at The Empty Bottle once before and was looking forward to sharing the music with the sky and feeling free to move and dance as well. I’m a fan of both Farenheit Fair Enough and Map of What is Effortless for some time now. This two piece now based in Ohio create lovely warm pieces of electronic music. It was almost difficult for me to tell how exactly they were influenced by the songs they spun, though, as it was mainly generic and barely recognizeable 80s pop music. There weren’t any mashups and, although the songs flowed well into eachother most of the time, I was disappointed with it overall. I would have rather had them play their own songs, even if it meant just playing it off the vinyl recordings.
