This was my third time seeing The Starlight Mints who provide fun and eccentric pop music to the masses. They may be a bit of an acquired taste but their songs are fulfilling and substantial. The female backup vocals of Marian Nunez fill in things well both live and on album as Allan Vest hams it up with his own unique style. One thing is for sure: this band sounds like no one else. Allan claims: “I just want the world to see what’s inside of me” and you know he means it.

It was a full ensemble of these five musicians from Norman, Oklahoma and they were bringing out the catchy numbers in full style, playing a mix of new material and songs from my favorite first release The Dream That Stuff was Made of. My only real complaint was that they didn’t play “Popsicle” even when several fans requested it, which is easily their catchiest and most accessible song. They hadn’t played this song when I had seem them back in May at the Subterranean, either, unfortunately but they promised to play it when they come around again in the fall.
