Dead Meadow

7/23/6
Wicker Park Street Festival
Day Two
Chicago
I’m actually a fan of Dead Meadow’s most recent release Feathers which is sort of like if you crossed the lushness of Starflyer 59 at times with psychedelica and I can sense a little Led Zeppelin and Pink Floyd in there at times as well. This three piece out of D.C. definitely wields a great deal of power and energy when they play.

But even Dead Meadow’s quieter numbers like “At Her Open Door” came off as a full fledged onslaught on the senses. It was literally difficult not to feel assaulted as Dead Meadow played as if they were in front of millions, creating the new Woodstock for the modern ages (and no, I don’t mean Lollapalooza). It was definitely an experience to remember.
With all this in mind, if you want an edgy psych out band to possibly rupture your eardrums, go ahead and see Dead Meadow. Personally, I’ll probably just stick to bands like The High Dials for my lush psychedelic fix.
