Pitchfork Media Music Festival
Day One (7/29/06)
Chicago, Illinois

It was really special to see a local band at Pitchfork because even though I really loved seeing bands like Jens Lekman and Os Mutantes, it was also a joy to see that Pitchfork wasn’t forgetting about our local music scene (one of the highlights of last year’s Pitchfork festival was actually seeing Andrew Bird)

Hot Machines are a three piece made up of part Ponys with Miss Alex White howling out vocals. They played with a passion that definitely helped the crowd warm up for the day. (We were already a little warm to begin with. Afterall, it was already ninety degrees but it helped further the excitement of a new full day of music beginning.) The alternating male/female vocals were accompanied by drums and guitar. They sounded as if they were ready to change the world.

Setlist included “Cyclops,” “Can’t Feel,” “Tear it Apart” “Draw Your Face,” and “Microphone” amongst others.
