Music References Over The Holidays
I realize I’ve been slow on the blogging but come on I posted about thirty Canadian related pics before I left! Anyhow, I wanted to say that whenever I see or hear something, the usual thing or question that pops into my head is how it relates to music. Unfortunately, sometimes being around relatives that may not completely get the music reference, I either choose to say nothing at all or I say something and it’s just not that well received. Here’s a couple of examples:
1. At dinner with my parents in law, I noticed on the menu that there was a bagel and lox with the footnote that the lox was from Nova Scotia. I couldn’t help but say, “Oh really? Is it served with a side of Sloan?”
2.While talking to my grandma, she told me about a church sale they called an “Accumulation” sale. Of course, my first thought would be Really? Any Smog albums there? Immediately, I thought of that collection of theirs Accumulation: None for some reason.
3. I was asked to read a message during the Christmas Eve service by my father. The passage talked about a light in the darkness. I kept hearing Morrissey sing, “There is a light and it never goes out” throughout my head during the entire five minutes I was reading.
4. Talking to my Canadian Aunt (related by marriage), she said about my cousin’s newborn son, “I can’t believe she named him Cohen!” I said, “Why?!? That could be such a great music reference. You’re from Montreal! Leonard Cohen represent!”
Is this a curse?

i got number 3 and 4. i missed the others but i am not really a music head any more though. i like elliot smith. i hate that click five, man thats the worst band i have heard in some time. i mention it because i believe they were manufactured in chicago? i like to tease, as i am sure you must despise them as well, or so i hope. well actually it doesnt matter. when i do have time to listen i enjoy hearing indie or indie esk bands as there really seems to be a lot of good and tallented people that make interesting music, but yes of course it is not on the radio most of the time. and i have not the time to learn who is who or to buy it. tonight my best friend was over an she insulted my belle and sebastian music! this made me very mad, as it is one of my favorites and i think “lazy line painter jane” is so great!
well have a good new year!

click five? Never even heard of it/them. I love Belle and Sebastian. Really love them. I listened to them the last time I was on the el alone taking pictures of the snow and the tracks. I felt really emotionally connected.
