Awkward Conversations About Music (part 4)

(or Behold a man who can actually live without music)
Cinchel and I were at a coffee shop we frequent in the neighborhood awhile back and we asked what was playing on the coffee shop’s stereo. The guy working there responded that he didn’t know as it wasn’t his cd. We’d had a couple of small conversations with him in the past (that hadn’t involved music) so I ventured on asking…
me: So what music do you like to listen to?
him: I don’t really listen to music.
me (in shock): What do you mean you don’t listen to music?
him: I dunno…I never really got into music. I just don’t ever need to hear it.
me: So you don’t own any albums like cds records or anything?
him: No.
me: What about the radio? Do you have any favorite radio stations you listen to? (there are a couple of community radio stations in the Chicago area)
him: No. I just never feel like listening to music.
There you have it. I ran into someone who could have cared less if Emmitt Rhodes never existed. I looked into his eyes and realized I was literally face to face with a person I had never met before: someone who would rather spend a lifetime in silence than with melody. How awkward!
