Hailing from Vermont, The Smittens are a five piece band that could easily be renamed “Totally Twee”. A little unlike another Vermont band I love, The Feathers, The Smittens are a bit more on the upbeat pop side and their albums and live performance was filled with a ton of light hearted twee goodies complete with male/female harmonies. Dana Kaplan’s sugary vocals mix well with the voices of both Colin Clary and Max Andrucki. Many of the songs are shy numbers about love. Contrary to another twee band I’m a fan of, Tullycraft, The Smittens tend to be more sincere. Live, it was like being at a really fun slumber party before everyone gets so sleepy they can’t stay awake.
