Band fliers as a way of art and communication.

I just wanted to say how much it seems to be a natural part of the urban landscape to me now to see fliers for shows, especially from independent ones, around certain parts of the city…not just in Chicago either but many major metropolitan areas. Sometimes, it feels like one on top of the other almost can suffocate and it is difficult to decipher all of the details the band wants you to know about time, place, album…

I’m thinking how this is a sort of visual music community and how much more I prefer to see that instead of the bare telephone polls that would look naked at this point without eighteen multicolored pieces of paper informing you of where to go. In some ways, the application to various spots seems random but I am going to go with the theory that it has actually been well planned and that we’re all in it together.

Maybe it’s an art form…or just indie advertisements but aren’t cities the better for them? Wouldn’t we be at a loss without them?
