(Un) Awkward Conversation About Music

full moon fever

I had to share this because I was all set up for disaster. A couple of weeks ago, I was at the vet picking up food for my cat Buckley (named after Tim and Jeff) who cannot eat regular cat food because of a prior urinary tract infection. I’ve had several bad experiences at my vet, perhaps because the people who go there are mainly Lincoln Park trixie types with only pure bred animals who would just die without their morning Starbucks!! Anyways, I don’t wear designer outfits to the vet and neither should you! But when I saw that the woman sitting down waiting for her tiny little dog (what’s the name of those things? He was small but spotted. I have no idea what breed) was wearing a Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers shirt, I decided to strike up a conversation. Now, I still wasn’t expecting much. We were, after all, in a waiting room at the vet and even though we can use the rationale: “Well, I’m a nice person with good taste in music so she could be a nice person with good taste in music,” I usually just try not to get my hopes up.

Well, we had a conversation. And it was great! We started talking about how great Tom Petty was then soon to follow was Neil Young and then Simon and Garfunkel. Somehow, I got started talking about Jon Brion. Oh yes, I know, because Benmont Tench was playing with Jon Brion at Intonation. Well, she even said she would check out his stuff and actually looked like she was concentrating on remembering his name. I hope she ended up liking him.
