Best of Myspace Music

Hey everyone. I hope you all had yourself Merry Little Christmases or Hanukkahs, Kwanzaas etc. I just put together a nice little Swedish music compilation for my Swedish grandma including Jens Lekman, Peter and John Bjorn, El Perro Del Mar, The Envelopes, The Shout Out Louds and more for when I see her tomorrow. I’m not sure how much of it she’ll like but hopefully it will give her a good impression of the music coming from there right now.
My Best of myspace
Friends with the aforementioned Jens Lekman, This is nice choral music out of Sweden who sing some great covers with a nod to eclecticism (Kiss, Kate Bush and El Perro Del Mar???) It’s all acappella but with so many people singing, the sound is nice and full. Here’s an excerpt from their myspace page about us:
“We are one body with a gigantic heart and almost thirty brains. We are constantly involved in complicated choirdemocratic processes. We almost never cease to surprise ourselves. We are overgrown children from the Langley School who broke into the costumecloset. Our wardrobes are as big as our ambitions. We love fake hair and things that shine. We are magpies on the hunt for silver. We like wings, birds and sounds from the animal kingdom…”
Along the same lines in terms of great choral arrangements but not from Sweden is this great video/song I found from the Helsinki Complaints Choir that you just have to watch. It’s in subtitles and the heavenly chorus complains about everything from cell phone rings to waiting in line to women’s wages. You’ll laugh and possibly empathize:
