Whirling Dervishes of Konya
A few years ago, my friend Iymen went to Turkey and saw the Whirling Dervishes of Konya. She came back and described for me how it was a real religious experience for both them and those watching to see them spinning, as if in a trance. I was able to finally see them for myself when they came to Chicago in September as part of the World Music Festival. I shouldn’t have kept them on my hard drive so long without sharing them because it really was a great experience to take pictures of them with the city as a backdrop. My intention is not to lesses to sacredness of the Whirling Dervishes of Konya but to share with others what they are about.
