Best of Myspace Music

I’ve been editing photos all day today of The Blacks and The Thin Man, who played Schubas Tavern in Chicago last night. I don’t have the review written yet but if anyone would like to see the photoset, I put it up on flickr.

The Blacks with The Thin Man

Many things to look forward to this week. Later on, I’ll be posting my review of The Bitter Tears at the Empty Bottle and I’ll also be attending the Tomorrow Never Knows festival at Schubas for all five days. I’d like to be able to do a more substantial Best of Myspace but seriously, after all the photoediting I’ve done today, I feel like I might be experiencing early onset Carpal Tunnel.

So, here’s a band everyone should know about: Reds and Blue are a Chicago four piece that I had the pleasure of seeing open for The Bitter Tears right before the holidays. The somewhat disjointed angular rhythms really work to their catchy advantage much in the way that they do for the band The Celebration. They also remind me quite a bit of another Chicago band I’m fond of, Pit er Pat who are doing a Monday residency at Schubas Tavern this month. Like Pit er Pat, Reds and Blue prominently feature keyboards that provide much of the melody. Both Ellen Bunch and Annie Coleman have vocals that complement the music well but I also enjoyed hearing the basson and flute playing that Annie Coleman provided the songs. They will be playing The Empty Bottle in an upcoming show on January 10th w/Brokeback. More details about this show here
