Awkward Conversations (Around Music)

Ive only ever done one other Awkward Conversation Around Music before but this situation merits it… I was at Schubas Tavern on Tuesday to see Ron Sexsmith and I was quite enjoying myself as I’ve been looking forward to this show for a long time and the lighting and sound there is always wonderful. I was snapping away and when I wasn’t taking pictures, I managed to stand back and just enjoy myself a bit while I listened, which I’d like to do more often instead of stressing out about my pictures.
Anyhow, I had noticed this guy standing near Cinchel staring at me a few times. I didn’t recognize him and he was actually starting to creep me out. I was careful to look at Cinchel and not at this guy when I glanced over but I, of course, thought he might think I was looking at him or something. After Ron played his set, including a great encore that included “Secret Heart,” I went back into the audience to talk to Cinchel and my friend Jose. The guy was still there looking at me. Cinchel prompted me and said, “I think that guy wants to say something to you.” So then I felt like I had to turn next to me and say, “Is there something you wanted to ask me?” (Note: under normal circumstances, I would have just avoided him and gone to the back to wait for Ron Sexsmith so I could tell him he looked good from all angles.)
So I turned to him and asked, “Is there something you wanted to say to me?”
him:”Yeah…I was actually doing an experiment on you.”
me (grimacing) “An experiment?”
him: “Uh-huh. I was watching you take pictures and dance and I decided to stare at you to see if you knew I was staring.”
me: “Oh um…okay.”
him: “So did you notice I was staring at you?”
me: “Well, I did sort of notice you looking yes.”
