Fixx Coffee in Chicago
January 20th, 2007

There’s something wholly romantic about the very notion of being the type of person that could pick up and leave the country you were living in not once but twice. Combine this with the folk singer discovering new cities while jotting down poetry in his journal, which may be the most important thing he’s carrying on his person. It’s not a life for everyone but you can imagine the more well rounded view of the world you might have…and the stories you could come up with if you make it to old age.

Matthew Carr is originally from Wales but lived in Paris for awhile before decided to come here to live at least temporarily (depending on passport issues). He has sweet sad eyes, well defined cheek bones and sings folk songs sometimes about love (at other times, about losing his passport) set in Paris, Wales, and Chicago. The spotlight was on him alternating back and forth with another folk singer and playing solo with his acoustic guitar. Going to clubs frequently, I think some of the magic and innocence of this stripped down style can be lost too easily and this quiet well coffeehouse seemed to suit the songs and the language, as well as the night altogether.
