Best Of Myspace Music

I haven’t done my best of myspace music in awhile and there’s a really good reason for that….basically, the friend requests I’ve gotten from bands have been not really my thing or bands I didn’t feel were entirely worthy of blogging about. When I’m not so backed up with photosets, I have time to go and search out great bands by looking at friends of bands I already like but I’ve been slim on time as of late.
This week brings new possibilites….
1. Rue Royale
What’s even better than living in a big city centered smack dab in the middle of the U.S. where bands stop by between NYC and LA? Well, it’s having great bands living right under your nose. I’m a fan of many local bands and I go to many shows early so I can be exposed to even more of them but this band’s friend request caught me by surprise because I hadn’t heard of them and they make such beautiful folk music…rich like dessert. There’s an upbeat side to them to like in “Even in the Darkness.” Nice female/male harmonies from this two piece as well and they are playing the day before my birthday at Schubas!
2. Telegenic
Apparently Telegenic is a collective based between Australia and New South Wales. It is experimental…bright…at times a little drifting but a serene listening experience and also an interesting one. I love the background string section on “Beautiful Borderline and “Pray for Pills” and “Sunlight Bathed In…” actually reminds me a little bit musically of Broadcast
Combining mainly shoegaze and rock but in a way that is more structured so it doesn’t dissolve into nothingness are the two piece Delaware band The Sky Drops. It seems random to me that this pair, who produce just beautiful lush female/male harmonies in a way that at times recall quintessential shoegazers Slowdive, would be from Delaware but whatever geography inspires these shimmering rock goodies is fine by me. Nice full promising sound-have a listen!

Thanks for writing this! I loved all three bands (Sky Drops were already my “friends”), particularly Rue Royale.—Bryan
