Malajube….

Beat Kitchen in Chicago
Nicole wrote up a more extensive review of Malajube for Radio Free Chicago and I agree with what she said. In many ways, their set was a disappointment to me…too much guitar fuzz and it was difficult to hear the lyrics properly from at least where we had been standing up front. Malajube also came at the end of what felt like a show marathon for me. I had just been to the Dr. earlier in the day to finally get some antibiotics (going to my Dr. is always a trip in itself. She’s Russian and all of the nurses translate the Spanish of most of her patients. She shares her office with a Polish podiatrist and an Asian dentist. I am totally serious.) I digress…what I mean to say is that I was relieved to finally be on medicine to cure my sore throat (Azithromycin, your name is fantastic!). At the same time, however, I was exhausted and wasn’t feeling any better yet. After going out wed and thurs and getting up for work, I felt like my body had been put through a grinder. I’m sharing all of this because I figure some of your out there might have had similar experiences and can identify with trying to balance all of these things in our lives. And, if I enjoyed the music any less because of it, I wouldn’t be surprised.
Of course, that isn’t the band’s fault and I can maintain my appreciation for French Canadian music. Still, I would still rather see Le Husky live.
Aleks and the Drummer also played with tight drumming and wafting vocals…kind of made me feel like I was in a haunted Polish castle.

I really like that. Please send them to London! I would like to feel like I’m in a haunted Polish castle!
I hope the meds clear you up!
