If Prototypes were to write the Zombies song “Time of the Season” they might had written a triumphant “It’s the time of the season for dancing.” Fronted by the captivating and energetic Isabelle De Loussal, this French pop four piece swung open their arms to the welcome of the happily moving crowd ready to embrace their catchy rhythms with an enthusiasm rarely seen on a Monday night.
While the other band members kept pace and held those songs tightly together, Isabelle really carries the band. She brims with a stage presence so enchanting you can’t take your eyes off of her. The drums, bass, and guitar gave those songs a steady balance while she moved around with her mic singing songs that you couldn’t bear to stay still to. At the same time that she was coquettish and feminine with her bright red dress on, she was domineering in a way that made you forget she wasn’t the only one on stage. It recalled seeing Brazilian band Tetine a couple of months previously.
I’ll also put in a good word for their self titled album released domestically on the Minty Fresh label. I’ve read that others haven’t favored the album and have dismissed it as just a Stereo Total rip off but in my book, you can never have enough French pop. With songs like “Gentleman” and “Danse sur la Merde” you’ll be dancing the night away.

“The” Prototypes? It’s “Prototypes”. Oh, and I’m pretty sure that the Minty Fresh album is actual a combination of their first two French albums. I’ve not heard the second one yet, but the debut was certainly the best Elastica France has given us yet. And they’re very very good live too.

For some reason I often put the in front of pretty much every band’s name-same thing obviously with Stars. It’s still hard for me to say “Stars” instead of say”The Stars” Not sure why this is…but it is. Maybe it’s just the way the English language is set up or I’m just legitimately a total idiot.
