The Clientele And Beach House

Subterranean in Chicago

Reverby rain drenched vocals like a swarm of humidity…though The Clientele had technical difficulties, it was not their fault not really. Their sound is reminiscent of shoegaze I suppose though perhaps more like dreamy postmodern folk that makes you feel sort of heavy and light all at the same time. Still makes me feel the same as some quintessential shoegaze songs like for instance Slowdive’s Some Velvet Morning. This is just as warm and velvety and the music seems to wrap you right up in a warm embrace.

Beach House was also lovely and I had been wanting to see them for awhile. Like the Clientele they bring together a sense of warmth amidst the embrace of sound, though with a bit more of a tropical feel to it…the kind that would calm down a monsoon. The band name is appropriate in the sense that I imagine an entire universe inside one big Beach House, looking calmly out to the ocean and feeling a sense of awe at the way every little thing makes a noise.
