The 1900s

Lolla 8/5/7
Grant Park Chicago
Ok…truth to be told, I could only stay for one great song of The 1900s set. I was working on an assignment for The Postmarks so i had to make sure I got some pictures of them. Then, the Cribs started on the far end of the park fifteen minutes after the 1900s went on. This led to quite a harried morning. I arrived at 11:15, ran to photograph Juliette Lewis and the Licks and stayed the three songs. Then, I ran to the 1900s stage and photographed sound check and the first song. Then, I ran to the Postmarks stage and caught parts of the second and third songs. Then, I ran to the Cribs stage just as they were walking on it to catch all three songs. Amazingly enough, I survived all of this but shooting 3 bands in 15 minutes of (if you count Juliette Lewis) four bands in 30 minutes on all different ends of the park wears on a person.
So why would I put myself through such undue stress to photograph the 1900s, a band I have about ten folders of photos on from my hard drive? I mean, I’ve been a fan of them since before I even had my Canon SLR and was posting about them back in January of 2006. They are one of the reasons why I really love my city and I want them to succeed and for others to find the same joy they bring to me. So, even though it meant I was stressed to the max to get to their stage, farther away from both The Cribs and Postmarks, it’s just something you realize after it’s all in done with, it’s not so much the photos you have sometimes at the end of the day that matters. It’s your ability to live with yourself. I don’t think I could have lived with myself had I not gotten any photos of them at Lollapalooza.
