The Black Angels

Similar to many other bands at Lolla, I only caught exactly one song of The Black Angels set as I was actually photographing Los Campensinos! at the very same time on another stage. I’ve witnessed their live performances in the past at local Chicago clubs, however, and I can tell you that there was no difference in their ability to hold the attention of a crowd. The Austin six piece psych rock band creates a reeling rhythmic sort of drive that wouldn’t be complete without the almost echoey and distorted vocals that crash right into you. To call it intense is somewhat of an understatement. I’m a big fan of their album Passover.and would encourage any fans of this genre to pick it up.
Also, this flickr set is probably the only time you’ll ever see what the Black Angels actually look like, as they tend to favor complete and utter darkness for their live sets.
