Awkward Conversations About Music (I’m From Barcelona)

It was Saturday August 4th, the second day of Lollapalooza in Grant Park and, though I had an assignment to shoot both I’m From Barcelona and Tokyo Police Club (which was starting 15 minutes later on the exact opposite end of Grant Park-a ten minute run given two heavy cameras and the light crowd for the beginning of the day). Still, I was happy to have the chance to shoot even one song of the 29 member band I’m From Barcelona, whose catchy sunshiny tunes couldn’t sound any happier.
As things were being set up and I was lingering with a few friends before going into the pit, a guy noticed my camera and asked:
“You’re going to take pictures of I’m From Barcelona?”
me: “Yes”
him: “I’m so excited about seeing them!”
me: “Me too!”
him: “I just love Spanish bands!”
me: “Um…you know they aren’t Spanish, right?”
him:”Uh…I’m pretty sure they are!”
me: “They’re actually from Sweden…”
him: “No, you’re totally wrong. They’re from Barcelona. That’s the whole band’s name”
me: “Oh, I know…it’s confusing but they are actually from Sweden.”
him: “From Sweden? But they’re from Barcelona….”
I should mention that Tokyo Police Club isn’t from Tokyo, either. They’re from Canada and I doubt they have any official ties to cops.
