I Love You But I’ve Chosen Darkness

I’ve noticed people fall into two different camps with this band-you either love their name or you just hate it. I’m in the first camp and was enchanted the moment I heard them. However, that hasn’t stopped me from being teased. When I went to pick up their recently released full length, Fear is On Our Side, one of my record store friends said, “Oh you just like saying that band’s name. Oh hey do you have any Godspeed You Black Emperor you can sell me?” I’d be mad but he knows me and he’s right….
I Love You But I’ve Chosen Darkness is another great four piece out of Austin who will fit right into your record collection right next to Interpol and on the same rack as Film School There are some really dark tinges of melody with this one. This was the first time I had heard many of these songs, although I had seen them perform before as an opener less than a year ago.
Live, they come off as very dynamic and together although I do wish I hadn’t felt so drained from looking for apartments all day. In any case, not too much banter but a nice full sound to encompass the place. You can hear sound samples on their myspace page here
