Martyrs in Chicago 5/13/6
Sally Seltmann of New Buffalo is from Melbourne, Australia but because she is on the Arts & Crafts label I found myself comparing her to many of my favorite Canadian bands inadvertently. She presents almost like an Emily Haines of Metric without any kind of attitude. Instead, she has the soft meekness of Amy Millan from Stars She seems like she fits right in with the label (and would probably fit right in living in Montreal too I imagine.) Her songs are mainly stripped down aside from a few tracks and very heavy on the vocals being right upfront and center. She demands quiet and attention so please give her this if you go see her live (which I would recommend as it’s rather an intimate sort of feeling performance). She performed alone with a sampler and went to and fro on the stage between the keyboards, guitar, and shaker.
