The Octopus Project

Subterranean in Chicago 5/24/6
It was a nice treat to see The Octopus Project because I always enjoy hearing the talented guitar work of Brandon Durham, a new addition to their ensemble. Brandon Durham is the lead singer of a band I love called Palaxy Tracks whose songs are so good they make my heart ache. Their last released albums, Twelve Rooms is particularily amazing and heartfelt. It’s also a quite different sort of band because the lyrics are a focus and I tend to be more partial to bands who feature lyrics and vocals.
I’m going to be honest here. I enjoyed The Octopus Project quite a bit. They are very upbeat, fun, and have a definite place in the world. Their music is creative and the dynamics between drums, keyboard, guitars, and even at times a theramin is interesting to hear and watch. There are times everyone needs music like this in his or her life. But as far as something I connect with on an emotional level, my vote is still for Palaxy Tracks. It was nice to see The Octopus Project, though, and their newest record, One Ten Hundred Thousand Million, is also interesting to listen to, although I wish there were some vocals on certain songs. The Octopus Project will bring some joy into an evening. They are quite definitely fun (What other band that you know of would dress up as electrical outlets!) and go all out with costumes, art design on stage and just the cutest dolls, shirts, pins, and stickers at the merch booth (so try to bring a little extra money with you) It was also neat to watch them switch instruments so often. They are definitely a group of very talented individuals.
