We Are Wolves

6/3/6 at the Beat Kitchen in Chicago
We Are Wolves are another one of those frantic Montreal bands who have abondoned the formulaic and turned to high energy creativity. On stage, they dressed up with large skull placards to help with their postmodernism and created some turbulent but tight songs. I bought their album but I had the distinct impression watching them that they are really a band that benefits from being seen live with many witnesses. It was great to watch them with Cinchel and Jonathan (who is 4% wolf) after some neighborhood garage sale shopping. You can hear their songs and become their friends through their myspace page
Now, for their **Official Wolf Credentials:*
Alex Ortiz lead singer/bassist/guitarist:
67% Wolf or the alpha wolf: It is probable that Alex’s own mother or father was, in fact, a wolf. He has strayed far from the remote forest where he was soon becoming more of an endangered species and has traveled into Montreal, where he can stay with the pack, befriending other wolves such as: Aids Wolf and Wolf Parade His howling to other wolves as signals clearly indicates that he is familiar with the innate language of wolves that will probably serve to protect him and other Canis lupi from extinction.
Antonin Marquis: backup vocals and drums:
59% Wolf: Antonin may have an aunt or uncle in his family who is, in fact, a wolf. His silky blackish grey hair may not serve to fully protect him in really cold wilderness but he can sure hold his own in a hot club. Like most other wolves, he probably weighs less than a hundred pounds and his wolfy grins and glances add to the music that keeps him from being a Lone Wolf.
Vincent Levesque: keyboardist, backup vocals, occasional drumming:
23% Wolf. Although being in a band entitled We Are Wolves definitely boosts Vincent’s street cred., he is much too soft and clean shaven to be mistaken as a wolf even when the howling around him is very intense. It is somewhat possible that he may have a distant relative only related to him by marriage that is a wolf. He may have a gift in his ability to communicate with other wolves but do not be misled: This man is not actually a wolf!
- Official Wolf Credentials and percentages are based on observation and field studies, DNA testing, and genealogy specialists as part of the scientifically accurate Human to Wolf Percentage Ratio Institute. Okay no seriously I just made the whole thing up.
